Philosophy
Salsophy is a structured teaching philosophy for salsa. Not a style to adopt, but a foundation that shapes how the dance is understood and taught, independent of personal style. The focus stays on how movement actually works: how weight transfers, timing adjusts, and connection passes between two bodies — so expression develops naturally rather than following choreographed sequences.Fundamentals first. Not routines.
.
.
In dance, movement has natural constraints: gravity, physiology, and the intention behind moving with a partner. Salsophy works within them. The freedom it creates is real because it's grounded.By understanding how the elements of the dance work and how they can be combined freely, students develop skills that remain adaptable. Not dependent on memorized patterns.Progress feels steadier and more reliable, because each layer supports the next. Understanding is built into the body. Not measured against an external model. The same foundations apply across other dances. Students often find they progress significantly faster when learning new partner dances as a result.Salsophy comes with its own terminology. Some things need precise words.
.
.
The aim is simple: clear structure, genuine connection, and a dance you create rather than copy. A dance that comes from understanding, not imitation.Salsophy doesn't teach you to dance like Henrik. It teaches you to dance like yourself. And as it deepens, the dance becomes freer. The dance becomes yours.
Make it yours.
Henrik
Henrik has spent over two decades teaching salsa. Largely self-taught, with a rapid development that soon made him a sought-after instructor. Over time, that teaching evolved into what became Salsophy. With a calm, considered way of teaching, he creates an atmosphere where students feel inspired to challenge themselves and take their dancing further. A precise eye for detail means he catches the small adjustments that make the greatest difference in the flow and connection for each individual.Over time he has developed a pedagogy that seamlessly weaves the elements of the dance together and puts words to its more abstract aspects. It adds nuance to the dance and shortens the distance between understanding and feeling. Several of his students have gone on to become instructors themselves.
In Their Words
"I feel like I've gained an entirely new and deeper understanding of dance. In two days I learned more than in an entire semester of other courses.""The course allowed me to learn and immediately integrate during the class. I could feel real progression in every step.""I really liked how Henrik structured the class and built the teaching over time. Instead of just drilling routines like most workshops, he creates space to actually understand, practice, and integrate movement during the class. This makes learning feel natural, not mechanical. Most importantly, he creates a safe and welcoming atmosphere where creativity becomes possible, and that makes a huge difference in how you learn."
.
"I've never learned this much in just a few hours.""I feel like I've truly developed as a dancer and gained a much stronger sense of rhythm, technique, and partner connection.""He was clear in his explanations, patient, and created a calm environment where you feel safe even when things are difficult."
.
"He takes time for every individual and adapts the teaching to each person.""Very clear instructions and a well-structured progression throughout each session.""Skilled at putting words to things that are abstract."
.
"He had a great energy and helped the group relax and have fun.""10/10 – he made me want to dance more salsa.""Professional, skilled instructor."
